Chronological Profile of PAP

1st Research Conference 2000 - Launching Ceremony of PAP

Pakistan's Population Issues in the 21 Century

The first annual conference of PAP was held from October 24-26, 2000 at the Aga Khan University Karachi. The theme of the conference was “Pakistan's Population Issues in 21st Century”. Over all 37 papers were presented. There were three panel discussions on “Results of the 1998 Census”, “Abortion as Public Health issue” and “Aging as an emerging concern”.

2nd Research Conference 2001

Pakistan's Population Stabilization Prospects

Second annual conference was held in 31st October - 2nd November, 2001 at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad. The theme of conference was “Pakistan's Population Stabilization Prospects” In all 48 papers were presented. There were three panel discussions on “Planning for the future: Challenges in teaching and Research in Population and Health”, “Brining men and Adolescents into the Population Agenda” and The Post ICPD Challenge: Issues of Governance, Decentralization and Integration”.

3rd Research Conference 2002

Population and Sustainable Development in Pakistan

Third annual conference was held in December 19-21, 2002 at University of the Punjab, Lahore. The theme of the conference was “Population and Sustainable Development in Pakistan”. 42 papers were presented. Three panel discussions were held on “Capacity building in the field of Population”, “Panel on aging”, ”New Challenges in the Population and Health sectors”,

4th Research Conference 2003

Population Research & Policy Development in Pakistan”

Fourth annual conference was held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad from December 9-11, 2003.The theme of the conference was “Population Research and Policy Development in Pakistan”. 29 papers were presented. There were three panel discussions on “Does research have any role in formulation of Policy?”, “Challenges in Teaching Population Sciences” and Population and Rural Economy”.

5th Research Conference 2004

Sharing Population and Development Research across South and West Asia

The Fifth Annual Research Conference entitled “Sharing Population and Development Research across South and West Asia” was held in Karachi from 14-16 December 2004. The Conference was organized in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, University of Karachi. Overall 38 Research papers were presented in the conference and 3 Panel Discussions were organized on: “Challenges of Sharing Population and Development Research Across South & West Asia”; “Can Pakistan meet its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Maternal Health?” and “Capacity & Resource Constraints in Population/Reproductive Health”

6th Research Conference 2005

Linkages between Population and Millennium Development Goals: The Asian Perspective

Sixth Annual Research Conference entitled “Linkages Between Population and Millennium Development Goals: The Asian Perspective” was held at the National Library, Islamabad from November 29 December 1, 2005. Overall 44 Research papers were presented in the conference and 3 Panel Discussions were organized on: “Poverty, Population & Health”; “Population Policies in the coming Decade” and “Prospects for Demographic and Health Research”

7th Research Conference 2006

Population at the Crossroads of Development

Seventh Annual Research Conference entitled “Population at the Crossroads of Development” was held in Peshawar from November 28 30, 2006, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Peshawar. Twenty five research papers were presented. Where as 4 Panel Discussions were held on: “Population and Family Planning Programmes: Learning from Experience of Neighboring Countries”; “Internal and International Migration: Pakistan's Experience”; “Prospects for Devolution of Family Welfare Program in Pakistan” and “Data Collection through Census and Surveys in Pakistan”

8th Research Conference 2007

Population and the Regional Development Nexus

Eighth Annual Research Conference on “Population and Regional Development Nexus” was held in collaboration with the Department of Anthropology, Quaid i- Azam University, Islamabad from December 17 18, 2007. Overall 23 Research papers were presented in the conference and 3 Panel Discussions were organized: “Population and Regional Development Perspective”; “Demographic Dividend: Opportunities and Challenges” and “Availability & Utilization of Demographic & Health Data”.

9th Research Conference 2008

Population Dynamics and Security: Public policy Challenges

Ninth Annual Research Conference entitled “Population Dynamics and Security: Public Policy Challenges” was held in collaboration with the Centre for Public Policy and Governance - Forman Christian (FC) College Lahore from December 2 4, 2008. Overall 22 Research papers were presented in the conference and 3 Panel Discussions were organized on: “Repositioning Family Planning as a Health Intervention”; “Demographic Dividend: An Opportunity not to be Missed” and “Population and Health Data for Policy Making”
